Sessions generally last from 45-55 minutes, depending on your insurance carrier. Before diving in to the session, we will discuss privacy practices and the scope of confidentiality. The first session is then spent gathering your background and discussing what brought you to therapy. This includes things such as your presenting problems, family history, health issues (including diet and exercise), education, work history, legal history and past experiences with counseling. We will follow up with a second session by setting goals, also known as a treatment plan. This will include things you hope to accomplish or work on during our time together. We will discuss ways in which we will meet these goals and what the course of treatment will look like. Subsequent sessions will continue to reflect on these goals as you process the issues that brought you in to treatment and learn new ways to approach them.
At Integrated Life Counseling Center the belief is that you know what is best for you. Your feedback is an essentail part of the process. The role of the therapist is to help facilitate the process by listening, reflecting, working with you on coping skills, and holding space for you to do whatever work needs to be done.
